*Irish* - Antique Fiddle Pattern Silver Sugar Tongs
A very good pair of antique Irish silver sugar tongs.
They are totally plain, and the arms are in fiddle pattern, which was new at this time. They are particularly long, with small oval bowls. They have been made from a very good gauge of silver, and they feel very heavy in the hand.
This is a superb pair of sugar tongs, and their length is certainly quite unusual. They would go very nicely with a flatware service in fiddle pattern (or any other plain design). They are hallmarked with the maker's mark RW and the retailer's mark M WEST [Matthew West] and the harp, hibernia and duty mark. Small pieces of this type were usually not stamped with a date letter. A separate picture of the hallmarks can be emailed on demand.
This pair of antique Irish fiddle pattern silver sugar tongs was made c1807 by Richard Whitford of Dublin.
