The 'Southern Cross' is a constellation of five stars named 'Crux Australia' in 1679. It appears on Australia's Coat of Arms, and featured in flags from 1901. Any Australian would recognise this national symbol immediately. And because there cufflinks are double-sided, there is a Southern Cross on both sides of the cuff.
